The famous Recording Academy, Grammy Awards organizers, are under fire for referring to renowned Nigerian Afrobeat musicians Wizkid and Rema as “up-and-coming artists.”
On Instagram, Nigerians slammed the Academy for labeling two of the top internationally recognized musicians as up-and-coming.
In an Instagram story, she asked, “Who is an up-and-coming Black artist everyone should be keeping an eye on?” Wizkid and Rema were mentioned by the Recording Academy.
This decision, however, infuriated many Nigerians, notably Wizkid’s fans, who saw it as disrespectful given the singer’s standing as one of Africa’s most talented musicians.
A social media user wrote in reaction, “Forget stanship this is actually disrespectful considering Wizkid is a top three afrobeats artiste.”
Another user added, “Wiz kid up and coming ke? Is Grammy mad?”
“Wizkid isn’t up-and-coming, tf?” one @oxfybi wrote.
