Accusing Yoruba elders of being selfish, Leo Da Silva, a former housemate on Big Brother Naija, has criticized them for selling family land to Igbo people.
His remarks followed social commentator Scott Iguma’s discussion on corruption in the real estate industry, according to ENTV News.
According to Iguma, some Yoruba elders voluntarily sell land to foreigners instead of utilizing it for the good of their communities.
He noted that Igbos had lawfully acquired the land rather than stealing it, and that Yoruba leaders frequently use the proceeds for luxuries rather than bettering the standard of living in the area.
He suggested that if there is concern over outsiders in Yoruba land, leaders could focus on building seaports and international airports in other states to encourage foreigners to do business elsewhere.
Reacting to this, Leo DaSilva said Yoruba elders’ greed has made them a subject of ridicule. The reality TV star added that family disputes over inherited property have contributed to the situation, making it easy for others to mock the Yoruba people.
He wrote on Twitter: “lol this narrative of Yoruba elders selling family land to our Igbo people, that’s where I will always blame us Yoruba people. “Everyone is now using it to make fun of us. “Your parents that are greedy and fighting their siblings for property they didn’t work for, caused this.”
