Regarding the arrest of musician D’banj, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has spoken out.
The musician was reportedly imprisoned by the commission after being arrested hours earlier, according to media sites (other than ENaijatv).
The commission has denied recent allegations that the musician was detained. D’banj turned himself in on Tuesday, December 6th, the spokeswoman claimed.
According to the commission, D’Banj originally declined invitations after receiving several of them in response to a petition from some unidentified petitioners, but finally relented on Tuesday and showed up to explain his involvement in the situation.
This information was provided to DAILY POST on Wednesday in a statement written by Mrs. Azuka Ogugua, the Commission’s spokesman.
“On June 8, 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari launched the N-Power program to address the problems of young unemployment and empowerment while also promoting social development.
“In accordance with its mandate, the Commission had received several petitions regarding the misappropriation of N-Power monies totaling billions of naira after the Federal Government approved and released such payments to the recipients.
Numerous N-Power beneficiaries had expressed dissatisfaction about not receiving their monthly payments, despite the Government having made them.
The ICPC has invited about 10 people in recent months in relation to the N-Power fraud, and following their detention, they were given administrative bail.
Mr. Oladipo Daniel Oyebanjo disregarded several requests to come before an investigative team and did not accept any of them.
“We didn’t arrest D’banj – ICPC declares.
“Mr. Oyebanjo turned in himself and was taken into custody at the ICPC Headquarters on Tuesday, 6th December 2022, and is currently assisting the investigators to unravel the circumstances of the fraud allegations by the petitioners.
“The investigation will be all-encompassing and also be extended to other collaborators of the fraud and the banks where the beneficiaries’ accounts are domiciled.
“The press release becomes necessary to set the record straight in view of the reports awash in the media. The investigation is ongoing and the Commission prefers not to preempt its outcome and also avoid the frenzy of a media trial”, the statement contained.
