Unknown gunmen hit Ebonyi market again, many shot, vehicles set ablaze.

When unknown gunmen attacked Nwakpu market in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State early on Wednesday morning, they were thought to be enforcers of Simon Ekpa’s five-day sit-at-home order. Many people were shot and injured.

The rioting hoodlums also set fire to the motorcycles and cars of shoppers at the market for allegedly disobeying the supposed order to stay at home.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers were firing indiscriminately at individuals as everyone fled in various directions during the subsequent chaos.

One of the victims, who only went by the name Henry, claimed that the unidentified gunmen burned his car together with other ones.

He claimed that the attackers left him in a pool of blood after shooting him in the leg and cutting him on the head with an axe.

According to Sector Crime Officer Kingsley Okorie, who confirmed the incident, when police received information about the attack at the market, they rushed the market, and when the hoodlums saw the security forces, they fled.

Police added, “We gave them a strong pursuit, but they fled on motorcycles through tight passages to the bush.”

The policeman reported that Henry, one of the victims, had been rushed to the hospital, where workers were attempting to remove the bullets from his thigh.

The five-day sit-at-home order has now been denounced by IPOB and its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who claim it is impoverishing the people.

The pro-Biafra movement has promised to challenge the alleged order’s enforcement.

Outrage has also been expressed against the sit-at-home order from all throughout the South East, which has mainly been disregarded by the people.
