Court rules against Ambitiouz Entertainment in controversial Blaq Diamond case

A year after abruptly leaving their longstanding label Ambitiouz Entertainment, Blaq Diamond have quietly fought and won a case against their former label.

Ambitiouz had taken the hip hop duo, Ndumiso Siyabulela Mdlethse and Siphelele Mbongi Dunywa, to court in an apparent attempt to remove and/or delete the pair’s YouTube account.

On Monday, @jade_louella made the announcement on Twitter. “CONGRATULATIONS to my client Blaq Diamond on successfully preventing YouTube and Ambitiouz Entertainment from pulling their music from YouTube and other DSPs!!!

“WE WON ON COSTS.” This is a game changer in the industry! This is for all musicians who are taken advantage of the record labels!”

Louella posted a picture of the court decision. “Having read the papers filed on record, heard counsel, and considered the matter, the following order is made: That, pending final determination of Part B attached to this application, any person or entity acting in concert with the Respondents is hereby prohibited from removing and/or deleting the Applicants’ Youtube channel account.”

Ambitiouz Entertainment, the label responsible for Emtee, Sjava, and Blaq Diamond’s careers, has a convoluted background.

Miss Pru’s exit from Ambitiouz Entertainment signals the end of an era for the renowned label Blaq Diamond, who has become the latest local act to get their own alcohol flavor.

Presiding Judge Wanless, who presided over the case, also barred Ambitiouz from filing any additional claims against the couple with other digital streaming services (DPSs) such as Spotify and Apple Music.

According to the court filing, the judge ordered Ambitiouz to “be barred from raising any copyright/ownership dispute against the Applicants’ works with any other Digital Streaming Platform (“DSP”), including the First Respondent, Spotify, iTunes, and Deezer.”

He also ordered Ambitiouz to pay the application’s costs, including the fees of two counsel.

The record label has previously had contentious feuds with stars such as A-Reece, B3nchmarQ, Fifi Cooper, and Emtee.
